Forum Post: VLAN tag behavior in AM335x

We have some use cases related to AM335x and would like to check/confirm whether these modes of operation can be supported.

Host port (CPU port), PORT1 (external port), PORT2 (external port)

1) AM335x is in an Ethernet network whose frames have VLAN tags.

  • If a VLAN tagged frame (with VLAN ID = 0 or 1) is received on PORT1 or PORT2, it must be forwarded to the Host port and/or the other external port (depending on the ALE state).
  • If a VLAN tagged frame (with VLAN ID != 0 or 1) is received on PORT1 or PORT2, it must be forwarded to the other external port (depending on the ALE state).
  • Ethernet frames produced by the CPU must egress PORT1 and/or PORT2 with VLAN tag (VLAN ID = 1).

2) AM335x is in an Ethernet network whose frames may or may not have VLAN tags.

  • If an untagged frames frame is received on PORT1 or PORT2, it must be forwarded to the Host port and/or the other external port (depending on the ALE state).
  • If a VLAN tagged frame (with VLAN ID = 0 or 1) is received on PORT1 or PORT2, it must be forwarded to the Host port and/or the other external port (depending on the ALE state).
  • Ethernet frames produced by the CPU must egress PORT1 and/or PORT2 without VLAN tag.

Is the above behavior possible? If not, what are the limitations?

Thanks in advance for the help.
